BIG comes back from a 2-0 deficit in a thrilling final against Extra Salt and still wins the title at FunSpark ULTI 2020.
BIG won the final of FunSpark ULTI 2020. The German team prevailed 3-2 in an exciting final against Extra Salt on Monday evening after falling 2-0 down. Both teams can be seen at FunSpark ULTI 2021 at the end of the year.
BIG does not reward itself for rapidly catching up
Extra Salt went with a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series, as the team had reached the final over the upper bracket. On BIG's first pick Dust2, the American-South African lineup went into a real frenzy after a 1: 3 start. Shortly after the start of the second half, the team led 15: 4.
BIG then showed morale and fought their way back into the game. With ten rounds won in a row, the Berliners came up to 14:15, but did not reward themselves in the end. Extra Salt won the last regular lap at 16:14.
Train, the first choice of Aran 'Sonic' Groesbeek and Co., quickly developed into a back and forth between the two opponents. The lead changed sides several times before BIG took control in the second half despite losing a pistol lap. With a score of 16:13, the team prevented the 3-0 defeat in the final and thus ensured the connection.
TabseN and Co. shoot the series
Vertigo, the third map played, also offered the audience a lot of excitement. BIG got off to a 3-0 start on the T side, but then Extra Salt shifted up several gears and won ten of the following twelve rounds at 10-5 half-time.
On the defensive, Johannes 'tabseN' Wodarz and his teammates got along better from the start. After a short period of weakness that led to a 9:13 deficit, they dominated their opponent and forced a fifth map in this final with a 16:14.
The decision for the title fell on Overpass. Extra salt was part of the initial phase, because the team won four of the first five laps on their own T-side. After that, the lineup of the Berlin organization increased and went into the short break with a 9: 6 lead.
As on the previous maps, it remained exciting in the second half. Extra Salt equalized within a few minutes at 10:10 and also presented itself well afterwards. Johnny 'JT' Theodosiou and his teammates took the lead with 14:12, but BIG did not give up either. The Germans set the score to 14:14 and completed the 16:14 triumph with two more rounds.
In addition to the title, BIG has thus also won prize money of 150,000 US dollars. Extra Salt will receive $ 50,000 for second place. Both teams had previously been confirmed as participants in FunSpark ULTI 2021, which is to be held in China in December 2021, through their entry into the finals.
